This study aims to analyze the theoretical foundations of innovative pedagogical practices in high school education, identify methodological strategies applicable to this stage of basic education, and discuss the main challenges related to their implementation in the Brazilian school context. It is a qualitative study of a bibliographic and documentary nature, developed through a literature review and the analysis of normative documents and academic studies on the subject. The analytical process focused on recent publications addressing active methodologies, student protagonism, teacher mediation, and pedagogical innovation in basic education. The results indicate that practices grounded in constructivism, meaningful learning, critical pedagogy, and experiential learning can promote more active, contextualized, and student-centered teaching and learning processes. Among the most recurrent strategies are project-based learning, problem-based learning, and the flipped classroom. However, the effective implementation of these practices still faces obstacles related to teacher training, school infrastructure, curricular rigidity, and institutional conditions. It is concluded that pedagogical innovation in high school education requires a systemic approach, articulated with public policies, democratic school management, and a review of assessment practices, in order to contribute to a more meaningful, inclusive, and contemporary education.
