Abstract

This study analyzes the impact of the diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) on family dynamics, considering the emotional, financial, and social challenges faced by caregivers. The research adopts a qualitative and exploratory approach, based on a bibliographic review of recent studies on the subject. The theoretical framework includes discussions on the characteristics of ASD, the impact of the diagnosis on the family context, and the importance of support networks and public policies in promoting inclusion and supporting families. The results indicate that the diagnosis of ASD represents a moment of great transformation for parents and guardians, triggering feelings of uncertainty and emotional overload. In addition, it is worth noting that the delay in accessing early diagnosis and the limitation of specialized services are factors that aggravate the experience of families. In the financial sphere, the high costs of multidisciplinary treatments and therapeutic interventions create difficulties for many families, especially those in situations of social vulnerability. School inclusion, although guaranteed by specific legislation, still faces obstacles due to the lack of structure and professionals trained to meet the needs of children with ASD. The research concludes that strengthening public policies, expanding the training of health and education professionals, and providing psychological support for caregivers are essential measures to improve the quality of life of autistic children and their families. Finally, it suggests the need for further research to further explore the impact of inclusion policies and the role of support networks in families' adaptation to the diagnosis of ASD.
